Once you have redeemed your product key and signed in at microsoft365.com/setup, the next step is to install the Microsoft 365 apps on your devices. Your subscription gives you access to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, and more. You can install these apps on multiple computers, tablets, and phones depending on your plan. This guide walks you through installing Microsoft 365 apps on Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android. All installations start from your Microsoft account dashboard after you go to https://microsoft365.com/setup to complete activation.

Install on Windows

After you activate your subscription at microsoft365.com/setup, installing the apps on a Windows PC takes just a few minutes.
1

Sign in to your Microsoft account

Open a browser and go to microsoft365.com. Click Sign in and enter the same Microsoft account you used during setup.
2

Go to Install apps

Once signed in, click Install apps in the top-right corner of the page. Select Microsoft 365 apps to start the download.
3

Run the installer

Open the downloaded setup file (usually named OfficeSetup.exe). The installer runs automatically and downloads the full suite in the background.
4

Wait for installation to finish

The process typically takes 5 to 10 minutes depending on your internet speed. Once complete, you will see a confirmation message.
5

Open an app and sign in

Launch any app such as Word or Excel. When prompted, sign in with your Microsoft account to activate the apps.
You can install Microsoft 365 on up to five PCs or Macs with most personal and family plans. Each user in a family plan gets their own install quota.

Managing installs across devices

If you reach your device limit or want to free up a slot, you can manage installations from your Microsoft account:
  1. Sign in at account.microsoft.com.
  2. Go to Services & subscriptions.
  3. Find your Microsoft 365 subscription and click Manage.
  4. View installed devices and deactivate any you no longer use.
Deactivating a device does not uninstall the apps, but it stops them from receiving updates and may limit functionality until you sign in again on an active device.

What to do if installation fails

If the installer does not start, hangs, or shows an error, try these steps before contacting support:
  • Restart your computer and run the installer again.
  • Temporarily disable antivirus software during installation, then re-enable it afterward.
  • Use the official Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant to diagnose and fix common installation problems.
  • Make sure your operating system is up to date. Microsoft 365 requires recent versions of Windows, macOS, iOS, or Android.
